Own London

London Landmarks up for Adoption
In a twist on Monopoly, London is once again up for sale, this time to raise money for disadvantaged kids living in the Capital. Help a London Child (HALC), Capital radio's charity, is selling off landmarks, pubs, shops, schools and stations through a new online fundraising idea called www.londonlandgrab.com.
Buyers can acquire their favourite local or become a major retailer by 'adopting' real estate on Oxford Street - for the starting price of £5 - all of which goes to the children's charity.

Tara Palmer Tomkinson said 'What a fabulous idea to be able to adopt our own little part of London. I just had to purchase Harvey Nicks. Now, it's my very own at only £50! And every penny raised goes directly to Help a London Child - which is great.'
'This is our version of Monopoly meets Milliondollarpixels' said Fundraising Manager Tamsyn Clark. 'We want to give listeners and others the chance to support Help a London Child and have some fun, and what better way than to buy a favourite landmark such as Buckingham Palace for the bargain price of £30'.
The initiative is part of HALCthe annual fundraising appeal which this year is focusing on poverty in the capital. One in three children living in inner London live below the poverty line, a startling figure bearing in mind London is the fourth richest city in the world. This means that many children living in London cannot afford a hot daily meal, clothing or haven't even got a roof over their heads. Help a London Child improves the lives of these vulnerable children and this year we need your help more than ever before.
Sadly, London may be rich, but there are approximately 1 million children living in London who are living in circumstances that shouldn't exist in 2006 in our capital city. We want to raise awareness of this among Londoners and help bring about change said Clark.
Every year, twelve months of fundraising at Help a London Child culminates with an on-air appeal on Capital Radio for our listeners, which involves an on-air auction, text to win competitions and live events. This year will be no exception and we hope to raise a massive £200,000.

Get your own piece of London in the London Land Grab

The London Land Grab is a unique charity event in support of Help a London Child, giving Londoners the opportunity to own their very own piece of the capital. Landmarks, pubs, shops, schools anything and everything is up for grabs in an innovative fundraising event.
Up for grabs
A huge selection of London areas will be up for grabs, waiting to be snapped up by street savvy Londoners. Buyers can put down cash for a range of venues or adopt real estate on prominent high streets. All proceeds will go direct to Help a London Child, the charity organisation devoted to helping disadvantaged children and young people in the capital.

Help a London Child
Statistics indicate that one in three children in inner London are living below the poverty line, totalling somewhere in the region of one million. Help a London Child works to counter these trends and give support to vulnerable children and young people. In the London Land Grab Londoners are invited to show some support in an innovative, fun event.

Grab a piece of London
The Land Grab rules are simple - all you need to do is search the map for an area, landmark, location or venue that takes your fancy and then put down some money to claim it. Once adopted you can change the description and image of the area and personalise it to your own tastes.

Join the fun
So far Jodie Marsh has adopted Hyde Park whilst Tara Palmer Tomkinson has nabbed Harvey Nicks. Get in on the action, stake a claim for London and try a different kind of fundraising this Christmas.

The London Land Grab is now open. Adoption prices range from £5.00 - £100.00.
Today is your chance to support our work. Capital Radio's Help a London Child Appeal aims to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for the cause. Last year the appeal raised almost £1million - which meant Help a London Child was able to offer vital funding to 435 projects in London, tackling such issues as poverty, homelessness, abuse, illness and disability. This year the charity hopes to beat that figure. Go to www.londonlandgrab.com to sign up for a piece of London.
